Media arts making

Students constructed a storyboard to outline a three-part story combining still images, text and audio. Students then used iPads to take digital images of their illustrations, create text and record sound. Students then used an app to combine these elements into a story.

Video

This video features teachers and students working together as the classroom teacher, the media arts lead teacher and the visiting visual artist implement the Media Arts package. Each teacher describes the students' learning, with reflections on how the students responded. The video illustrates students engaging with content in Media Arts, Visual Arts, Music and English curricula in an integrated way. Attention is given to the media arts and visual arts techniques, skills and knowledge introduced in the lessons.

Samples

Samples of three students' work are presented. These samples include:

  • a storyboard
  • a PDF version of their ebook (without multimedia capabilities)
  • a link to an epub file of their ebooks (with multimedia capabilities).

Emphasis is on the knowledge, skills and techniques that the students learned.

The epub must be downloaded and then opened in software such as an ebook reader; for example, Adobe Digital Editions or Apple iBooks. The examples should be read as the outcome of a learning process.

The storyboards should be read as a planning tool in which illustrations and descriptions are likely to be imprecise and one aspect of the making process.

This project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
