Music Theory

Music Theory provides the user with an animated music theory tutor covering staves and scales to intervals and chords. The site includes basic modifiable visual and aural exercises, and tools such as staff sheet creator, interval and chord calculator, and popup keyboard. The material is downloadable for iPhone, iPod, and iPad.

San Francisco Symphony Orchestra

The user can see and hear the instruments of the orchestra, be introduced to the concepts of music in The Music Lab, or create music with the Performalator or Composerizer.

Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA)

This is a collection of contemporary jazz promotional material and events, including Education Young Women's Workshop (Annual - held in September) and Cool for School (a jazz education program).

Ten Thousand Hours

This site contains creative improvised music, with a monthly podcast hosted by bassist and composer James Ilgenfritz. Each monthly instalment features an interview and performance with a special guest.

Audio Tool is an electronic music composition tool with a 16 x 16 matrix. The user can click to add or subtract a tone, or spacebar to stop all tones. The ABC site is a rich menagerie of both the esoteric and everyday in Australian music making, from schoolyard chants and folk music to the most extreme experimental sonic landscape artists. RealPlayer required.

Australian Music Centre (AMC) Users can access a catalogue of Australian contemporary classical, improvisatory, and experimental music composers and their work. The site's additional sections include a timeline of Australian music and its influences, and category headings to information grouped according to instrument, genre, or orchestration.

Tanbur Music Education Links

Tanbur has a comprehensive index of links to useful flash-based and streamed musicianship resources, from printing staff paper and guitar tuners to a range of selected listening examples. Also available is a quiz-creating tool that covers a variety of genres, including traditional music of non-western cultures.

Deborah Smith Music

The site offers a comprehensive collection of music theory support materials, including well-constructed worksheets with key knowledge headers, and rhythm and co-ordination games with notated songs. The material is based around the VCE syllabus with links to VCE resources, but is useful for all state curricula.

Arts Law Centre

The Arts Law Centre is the go-to website for music business legal information in Australia. The site's contents include sample band partnership agreements, copyright notices, and music studio recording agreements, as well as useful checklists for organising festivals, and music managing and publishing.

Musical Futures contains a rich resources section to support teaching music informally, including the Teacher Resource Pack to facilitate the co-construction of curriculum with students. The site offers many resources for teachers designed by teachers, including easy rock band charts for popular songs.

Texas School Music Project

The site provides a list of tips and tricks to assist music teachers to master any difficulties that arise in most music teaching contexts. Videos of model lessons and checklists for different kinds of rehearsals and content teaching are also available.
