Managing Time – Dos and don’ts of integration

Do see the arts as:

  • mutually beneficial, where the critical and creative thinking of the arts complements other subjects
  • enhancing other subjects
  • resources for other learning areas
  • a means of interpreting subjects, ideas or concepts
  • building understanding of life-centred issues
  • setting a creative problem or challenge for students to solve
  • a significant learning area that when integrated must have equitable outcomes with the other learning areas.

Don’t see the arts as:

  • tacked-on activities
  • an opportunity to provide some busywork that will yield a pretty poster or diorama.
  • subservient or token
  • an opportunity for teachers to take over and solve the challenge for students.
