Managing Time – Planning for a high-quality arts program in your school

Do you have an arts policy for your school?

An arts policy (sample arts policy) is one that:

  • outlines the foundational decisions in setting up and deciding upon an arts program
  • includes who teaches the arts, where they are taught, what is taught and how they are taught and assessed, including time considerations and time management
  • provides appropriate connections and progression between units and bands of schooling.

Do you have year plans for arts learning?

Year plans should:

  • outline the context; previous arts experience; links to the Australian Curriculum: The Arts, General capabilities, Cross-curriculum priorities; and specify the time, space and other resources available
  • provide appropriate connections and progression between units and bands of schooling.

Do you have unit plans for teachers?

Unit plans should:

  • identify specific content descriptions
  • take into account continuity and progression of arts knowledge, understanding and skills
  • highlight opportunities for feedback and assessment to inform the teaching and learning process.
